Refugee & Advocacy Support

The major objective of our Refugee Support programme is to facilitate social and economic integration of refugees, by supporting existing refugee social programmes of NGOs and partnering to enhance impact.

Through this programme we support organisations which assist refugees and their families to re-build their lives in South Africa.

In Limpopo, the Foundation is supporting the Messina Legal Advice Anti-deportation project, which works within a framework of protection and enforcement of human rights to assist asylum seekers and refugees at 3 transit shelters and 3 sites close to the border. With a focus on the most vulnerable, including unaccompanied and separated minors, the project provides legal information and advice to reduce the number of unlawful arrests, detentions and deportations.

The Scalabrini Centre in Cape Town offers a comprehensive service to asylum seekers, refugees and their families through several programmes. We are giving support to the organisation’s Advocacy Programme which aims to strengthen legalprotection, address discrimination and assist with access to the South African immigration system and related sectors, including law and order, labour, education and health.

‘The future of South Africa is bright because of the resilience and determination of our youth. They are succeeding against all odds, have big dreams for themselves and the country and are change-makers in their communities.’
