Community Transport Support Programme Annual Event 2018

Our annual celebration event for our Community Transport Support Programme took place on 19 March 2018 at the Nelson Mandela Boulevard Garden Court Hotel. This year we extended invitations to 34 organisations on our transport programme, which is run in conjunction with Golden Arrow Bus Services, as well as to many of the NGOs that we fund in the Western Cape. Over 120 representatives from diverse fields came together to engage with our theme: “The winds of change – Harnessing Hope”.

The keynote speaker of the day, Adri Marais from TSiBA – a non-profit business school that assists young people who cannot access opportunities by providing full-tuition scholarships –  gave an insight into The role of NGOs in driving change.  Also presenting at this year’s event were: Encounters Film Festival which showed a trailer of one of their SA documentaries, Earth Child (an environmental and personal health education programme) and Scalabrini Centre, a centre of advocacy for human rights especially in regard to refugees and stateless people.

Rudy Martins, 29, is a former HCI Foundation bursary recipient and graduate from Cape Peninsula University of Technology with a B Tech in Taxation. Rudy was invited to speak about her challenges after Matric and how receiving our bursary helped her to achieve her goal. Rudy currently works as a Banker.

We were thrilled by performances from a few of our beneficiaries including College of Magic, Cape Town Opera and Jungle Theatre Company; Earthchild taught us some yoga exercises and we danced to fabulous live music by Steenberg High Jazz Band.

The conversation and discussion segment of the programme provided a networking opportunity for our beneficiaries to interact with each other and learn about the work that the Foundation supports as well as fostering potential partnerships between the projects and organisations.

Feedback from participants attests to a wonderful and uplifting day shared by those who rarely get to celebrate their contributions to the upliftment of our society.
