Passion for Conservation 
Sandile Mbatha’s journey in conservation began with a deep-seated passion for nature. His commitment to the environment is evident in his academic pursuits and active involvement in the Ndumo Community Project since 2022. Sandile’s dedication to making a difference extends far beyond the classroom, touching the lives of many in his community.
Academic Journey
Sandile’s educational path was marked by resilience and determination. Growing up in the picturesque town of Hluhluwe, he started his education at Gabadela Primary School and later attended Bukimvelo High School. Despite challenges in his final year, Sandile chose to restart from grade 11 at Ezifundeni High School in 2017, completing his matric in 2018.
In 2019, Sandile took a gap year while seeking employment opportunities. His tertiary education journey began in 2020 at Tshwane University of Technology, where he pursued a National Diploma in Nature Conservation. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic posed additional challenges, but Sandile adapted to online learning and successfully passed all his modules. He continued his studies, completing his advanced diploma in 2023, and is now working towards his postgraduate diploma while remaining actively involved in the Ndumo Community Project.
Role Model and Inspiration
When asked about his role model, Sandile cites Mr Zulu, his high school teacher. Mr Zulu’s leadership, resilience, compassion, and integrity have profoundly influenced Sandile, inspiring him to pursue his goals with determination and empathy.

Sandile’s choice of profession as an Environmental Educator and Conservationist is driven by a passion for nature and a desire to educate others about the importance of protecting the environment.
