Spotlight on an Inspiring Journey: Justine Kimbala – A Phenomenal Woman Empowering Lives
In a world where resilience and compassion are often celebrated, the remarkable story of Justine Kimbala emerges as a shining example of unwavering dedication and transformative impact. Hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Justine’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. For over a decade, she has played a pivotal role in the Three2Six project, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals.
Growing up in the village of Mokambo, Justine’s childhood was marked by the influence of a family deeply rooted in education. With teachers spanning generations, her path was shaped by the values of learning, care, and empowerment. This familial backdrop ignited her aspirations and sowed the seeds of her remarkable journey.
Justine’s pursuit of education defied odds and showcased her unyielding determination. Graduating with an Honours Degree in International Relations, she ventured into a field that resonated with her tribe’s cross-border heritage between the DRC and Zambia. A postgraduate diploma in Forced Migrations from the prestigious University of Witwatersrand further fortified her understanding of complex displacement issues.
However, it was her entry into the realm of education that truly illuminated her path. Joining the Sacred Heart College (Three2Six) as a teacher, Justine found her calling. Her innate ability to create a nurturing and safe environment for her students set her apart. Her commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding led her to pursue studies in Inclusive Education, enabling her to address the diverse learning needs within her classroom.
Justine’s impact extended far beyond the classroom walls. As described by her colleague, Charlotte Margerit Byrne, her work at the Three2Six Refugee Children’s Education Project has been monumental. She provided an education lifeline to refugee children who were denied access, while also offering vital pastoral care and support. This created a haven where over 2000 children and their families thrived.
Transitioning into her role as the Three2Six project coordinator at Dominican Convent, Justine continued to redefine her legacy. She bridged the gap between refugee and local communities, fostering cohesion and unity. Her courage and resilience were evident as she confronted the challenges of adapting to a new country and culture. Her selflessness, exemplified through unwavering support for her colleagues and families, underscored her undeniable stature as a phenomenal woman.
When asked about the significance of giving back, Justine’s response echoed the essence of Ubuntu – the African philosophy of interconnectedness. Her belief that our existence is intertwined with others naturally fuels her commitment to empowerment and change.
In sum, Justine Kimbala’s journey epitomizes the resilience, dedication, and compassion that define a true phenomenal woman. Her impact on education, inclusivity, and community building is a testament to her unwavering spirit. As she aptly puts it, she is a “vessel of honour” – a beacon of inspiration for all fortunate enough to witness her incredible journey.
