On our visits, we had an opportunity to interact with the community of Thanda at uMthwalume and Ndunge Village 0n the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
We were welcomed by their vibrant modern Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre building that is solar-powered. Their Imbewu ECD centre offers children a story-based curriculum that paves the way for their learning trajectory. We observed an environment that acknowledges children as thinkers, meaning-makers, and explorers.
We further visited one of their organic farms that ensures farmers’ homes are food-secured while they also make income from selling produce. We interacted with a male farmer who said, “farming ensures that he can provide for his family”.

How We Achieved This Project

As the Foundation, we are proud to be associated with an organisation that ensures all children have access to early learning programmes that prepare them for the future whilst ensuring that farmers are supported in generating income while their homes become food-secured.

Community Impacts

The community impact stemming from our visit to Thanda and Ndunge Village is multifaceted and profound. Through initiatives like the Imbewu Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre and local organic farms, the community experiences enhanced education, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Children benefit from quality ECD programmes, setting them on paths of lifelong learning and empowerment. Simultaneously, sustainable farming practices ensure food security while creating economic opportunities. These efforts foster social cohesion and resilience, as community-driven initiatives empower residents to address challenges collectively. Ultimately, our engagement underscores the transformative power of empowerment, shaping a future where every individual thrives and shared prosperity flourishes alongside environmental stewardship and social justice.
